THE WINGS OF THE BALD EAGLE rippled from the rising currents as he knifed through the sky high above the foothills of the Sierra range. Feeling the turbulent air of the thermals boiling off the sun-baked landscape, he instinctively banked into the uplifting arms of the air column and was pulled skyward toward the roof of the world. He was the perfect predator- master of all the territory that lay thousands of feet below. A reflection on the distant East face of Mt. I thought Crescent Rising was a very good action thriller. I found it to be thrilling, full of action and yes, a little over the top with some of the characters. But I expected this! I wanted to see a "James Bond" kick-ass type of guy and I got that in Ryan Black. But, Black is not a solo act, and has a great support team and some futuristic gadgets that would make Bond jealous. Yes, I liked all the high-tech weapons and spy gadgets. They fit in perfectly with the story.Several reviewers have mentioned that Zach Hamric has the potential to be a great action/thriller writer along the Brad Thor, Jon Land, Jack De Brul, Clive Cussler, Jeremy Robinson, & James Rollins line of writers, and I fully agree. I realize that Crescent Rising is Zach's first book. Is it the best action novel of all-time? No, but it is certainly not a 1 star or 2 star story. For a first time effort I would have rated it 3 ½ stars, but since we can't rate in ½ star increments, I rounded up my review to 4 stars based on the fact that I really ENJOYED reading this thriller. I actually wanted a little more time spent on just Ryan Black himself. But as the first book in the series, Zach had to establish everyone's roles in the world of Ryan Black. For only $2.99 I am very satisfied with this story and I will for sure get the 2nd book in this series when it comes out. I already have Blank Slate on my Kindle and will read that in the next couple of weeks.
To show you that great minds (and authors) think alike: early on in the story, the terrorists steal some nuclear material from abandoned lighthouses in northern Russia. This was played out very similar to the storyline in Tom Clancy's new thriller: Dead or Alive. I e-mailed Zach and he said he wrote Crescent Rising 2 years ago, so this just shows that Zach is thinking along the line of a great author like Tom Clancy, or that Tom is thinking along the lines of a young author like Zach.
All I know is for this price you cannot go wrong if you are looking for a fun action thriller! High-tech weapons/gadgets, plenty of action, a rugged kick-butt leading man, bullets, babes, & a slew of villains, Crescent Rising is more than all right!

Crescent Rising is one of those action-packed novels that leave the reader breathless and wondering what will happen next. The action, plot and premise are very relevant to the state of world politics as they stand in the USA today. Zack Hamric's portrayal of the workings of the terrorist mindset and methods of operation give the reader a rare opportunity to delve inside the minds of the lunatic factions threatening our very existence. His knowledge of weaponry, delivery systems, military operations is astonishing and the visual portrait that he paints of special operations and the malevolent intentions inherent with the terrorist community and found within the borders of our own country is both amazing and disturbing. The story flows from point A to point B with very little, if any, distraction, clearly defining the characters, their missions and their personalities along the way with some very interesting and entertaining glimpses into the lifestyles of the rich and infamous. I am left hoping that we may have such men as Ryan Black and his cronies out there somewhere looking out for us all. Excellent job, Mr. Hamric!
This was one of the best first novels I've ever read. It has an extremely exciting plot, non-stop action, interesting characters, and great detail. Why some big-named publisher didn't pick it up is certainly a question, thank God for the and indie publishing!
It was well-written with great plot flow. There were a few mistakes that an editor should have found, but I've learned to overlook those when reading books. They certainly didn't distract from the momentum of the story.
I also think this story would make a fantastic action movie, I could easily see the scenes in my head.
I hope we really do have people like Ryan Black watching out for this country, it seems much to easy for terrorists to do evil deeds.
As soon as I finished, I checked the for the next adventure. I was very disappointed to see that there isn't one yet. Zach, write fast!
Reading this book had me so engrossed I stayed up all night to finish it!!
Thrilling, exciting story very "in tune" with todays headlines. The characters were interesting and definitely sucked you right in. You felt like you were right in the middle of the action. It is very much an exhilarating read that leaves you wondering what will happen next. Ryan Black is all too real of a character that you wish could be on your side of the world of good vs. evil. I found the descriptions of military weaponry engrossing and so detailed that I could actually see these special forces weapons and tactic machinery in my mind. This book describes an all too plausible scenario which left me afraid for the world today. As long as there is a Ryan Black in this world, I feel safe.
For anyone who likes a fast paced, realistic world of terrorists, the special forces, secrets and pure adrenaline, this book is for you! Could't recommend more highly!!

I got this for the and enjoyed it with a couple of criticisms.
Doesn't anyone proof read these? Is that why the (sometimes) gets great prices?
Case in point
1. about 1/8 of the way in he's explaining the relationships of the characters and says
that "they've fought together on twelve continents." Say what? What planet is that?
2. Later, the officer orders his men to drop everything but their weapons, as they're close to the enemy.
In the next paragraph, he describes how tough it is to run through the forest with all the packs and heavy gear on.
3. Finally, the target ship is heading to New York in the Atlantic ocean. "Sir, they're two hundred miles off the coast heading due EAST." Hello, New York is west!
4. Why is the Chinese missile always called the "seekworm"?
However, for the money, it was a good read, not Tom Clancy, but a good page turner.
